Dillian Whyte Reportedly Fails Drug Test
If the reports are true, the long wait for Dillian Whyte to have a shot at the world heavyweight title might very well have no end in sight.
Thomas Hauser is reporting that multiple sources have confirmed that Whyte has reportedly failed a drugs test just days prior to his fight with Oscar Rivas on Saturday night.
Promoter Eddie Hearn has acknowledged the reports and maybe tellingly didn’t deny the story:
“Further to reports, I can confirm that both Dillian Whyte and Oscar Rivas were subject to extensive VADA and UKAD testing for their bout.
“Both fighters were cleared to fight by both bodies and the BBBofC.”
The sources say an ‘A’ sample taken from Whyte for one or more banned substances. The test was carried out by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) and under UK rules no sanctions can be made against Whyte until the due process is completed, which is why the fight with Rivas was allowed to go ahead.
Of course Whyte might be completely innocent and everyone should be presumed innocent until proven guilty. But after the events of the last few days, and in a sport as brutal and dangerous as boxing, you have to seriously question why the rules which allowed the fight to happen are in place.
