Fightpost Team Predictions: Dillian Whyte vs Oscar Rivas
By Josh Wooler
Dillian Whyte fights Colombia’s Oscar Rivas at the O2 Arena in London tonight on a night stacked with heavyweight action.
Whyte (25-1, 18KO), who has been ranked number 1 by the WBC for almost two years, will be hoping that victory will finally earn him the right to take on Deontay Wilder, although with the American already having fights with Luis Ortiz and Tyson Fury pencilled into his diary, Whyte shouldn’t take anything for granted.
For Rivas (26-0, 18KO), this will be his highest profile fight to date, his most notable contest so far was his twelfth-round stoppage win over Bryant Jennings in January. The 32-year-old remains somewhat of an unknown quantity, but he had struggled against the over the hill Jennings prior to the knockout.
I expect Rivas to be competitive in the early rounds but I think Whyte’s greater professional experience will give him an edge. I’m predicting the Brixton fighter to hurt, and potentially drop, Rivas around the mid-point of the contest and then to dominate for the rest of the fight.
Almost the entire FightPost team have also picked Whyte to emerge victorious, however there is a split on whether or not the fight will go the distance. I think Rivas will hang on to hear the final bell and lose on points, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Whyte force the stoppage.
