FightPost Team Predictions: Dave Allen vs David Price

By Josh Wooler

Doncaster’s Dave Allen will be taking on David Price in an all-British encounter this Saturday on the undercard of Dillian Whyte vs Oscar Rivas.

Two years ago, Allen’s time in the spotlight seemed over following defeat to Lenroy Thomas, and arguably it was only due to his popularity with boxing fans that Matchroom continued to give him opportunities. That all seemed to change twelve months ago following his upset win over Nick Webb which he then bettered with a third-round stoppage of Lucas Browne in April.

Instead it is now Price whose career is in jeopardy and there have been calls for him to retire for a number of years now. The blueprint to defeat the former Olympian is quite clear: don’t get caught in the early rounds, wear him down to the body and wait for him to tire before targeting his already suspect chin.

Having said that, Price is still a threat early in the fight due to his sheer size and power and there are those who are picking him to beat Allen, who isn’t the most technically gifted boxer in the world himself. I still think that Allen will be heading into the fight with a lot of momentum and will be picking him to stop Price in the early-to-mid rounds.

Most of the FightPost team are also tipping Allen to get the job done inside the distance. If that is the case, I think it will definitely be time for the 36-year-old Price to hang up the gloves, whilst Allen can potentially push for a shot at the British title.
