Egbunike Fires Back at Rival McDonagh
Unbeaten Daniel Egbunike has hit back at rival Martin McDonagh – insisting that his amateur experience won’t help him when they meet on Friday’s massive #MTKFightNight event at York Hall.
Rising stars Egbunike (4-0, 3 KOs) and McDonagh (5-0) meet on a huge card live on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank, and also live on iFL TV.
McDonagh previously stated that his amateur experience will be the difference in the fight, but Egbunike has fired back ahead of this week’s showdown.
Egbunike: “I know McDonagh is a southpaw and he was a good amateur. Lots of fighters were but it’s very different in the professionals. We don’t need to do much talking – I’ll just let my hands go.
“There are a lot of differences between me and him – not just southpaw and orthodox. I’ll make it extremely clear on the night so people should keep their eyes on this fight.
“The more I spar with good, world-class fighters, the more I know I can go the whole way. I’ll continue to climb up until someone stops me, and stopping me won’t be easy because I’m dedicated.
“I don’t think it’ll take me that long to get there. This is only my fifth fight and I’m already in a Southern Area eliminator so who knows how far ahead I’ll be by my 10th – British title? European? There are so many titles out there that you never know.
“These #MTKFightNight shows provide such a massive platform. Since I signed with MTK Global, my following has grown and I’m getting active now.”
Egbunike vs. McDonagh is part of a huge bill on Friday, that features an exciting battle between Ohara Davies and former world champion Miguel Vazquez, a British featherweight title clash between champion Ryan Walsh and Lewis Paulin, plus a mouth-watering super-lightweight war between Anthony Yigit and Siar Ozgul.
The likes of Donovan Mortlock, Bradley Haxell, Sam Gilley, Jack Ewbank and Quaise Khademi make up a solid-looking undercard.
