Tom Schwarz: Do We See Another Upset?

Tom Schwarz:

Do We See Another Upset?

By Michael Rueda

Who is Tom Schwarz? On paper it looks good 6 Ft 5 ½ inches (197cm) with a 24 and 0 record. He has 16 knockouts, so you could say solid power. Then you look at the opponents and think well not too much there. He did show in a previous bout that he does have the heart to get up from a knockdown and take over, but he also showed he could be outboxed in another fight by a smaller man in which Schwarz won by DQ.

He was a two time Youth National Champion in Germany and that does hold some merit, but that’s it at this point.

Schwarz again size wise is a big guy and he does seem to carry enough pop, but against a fighter like Tyson Fury will it be enough.

Fury fought arguably the hardest puncher in the heavyweight division and did rise up twice showing he can take the hardest of punches.

In this division as many found out anything can happen just ask Anthony Joshua. Yes Fury should take the win, but he has been knocked down before and again anything can happen.

Schwarz has no pressure and nothing to lose. Fury has the Top Rank deal and fighting in the MGM Grand as well as the Wilder rematch lurking. Just like Andy Ruiz did in New York, Schwarz can disrupt all future plans.

Schwarz is confident and again has no pressure which adds to his danger. Once again as a heavyweight it only takes one punch. Schwarz has a good right hand and a very quick tricky uppercut that if it lands can cause some issues.

Fury knows how to avoid punches, but can get caught and with the pressure on him one solid one can change things and shock another big time heavyweight, hello Tommy Morrison, Lennox Lewis, Anthony Joshua.

Schwarz was picked as an opponent and even though he carried the #2 ranking with WBO it still could’ve been a year before he challenged at this level. If Schwarz brings his heart and shows no fear he can make some noise. Fury also early in his career went down against a smaller man in Steve Cunningham, so again if caught right he may drop, but one thing we know about Fury is that he will rise.

In this case contrary to Joshua I don’t see a solid chance of the Schwarz upset though I believe he may have limited success.

For Schwarz it will be don’t let the moment pass him by and freeze on his biggest ever night, perhaps the biggest night he will ever have.
