Fury vs Schwarz Prediction
By Jordan Victor
This Saturday, Tyson Fury returns for the first time since his sensational fight with WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder back in December of last year.
It was a fight many thought that Fury won but ultimately he did not get the decision on the judges controversial scorecards, and on Saturday night he will look to make a huge statement as he continues on his quest for the heavyweight throne.
His opponent will be Tom Schwarz, a 25 year old German heavyweight who holds an impressive undefeated 24-0 record.
Schwarz is ranked number 2 in the WBO and number 8 in the IBF – and has wins over the likes of heavyweight journeymen Senad Gashi and Samir Nebo (who will be no strangers to the UK fans).
But despite this and an impressive on paper undefeated record, the match-up with Fury does not bode well for the German contender. Schwarz has never competed over the 12 round distance, going only 10 and 8 rounds on a limited few occasions, and he has never competed outside of Europe, with only one of his fights ever taking place outside of his native Germany (a 2017 bout against Ivica Bacurin in the Czech Republic).
Schwarz also has no world level experience and is not even regarded as the best heavyweight in his native Germany.
In comparison, Fury is also undefeated yet has gone the 12 round distance on multiple occasions. He has also held the IBF, WBA, WBO and IBO world heavyweight titles plus the British and EBU heavyweight titles. Fury also has a very impressive resume, with wins over the likes Wladimir Klitschko, Dereck Chisora, Steve Cunningham.
Many also believe him to be the uncrowned WBC champion after that very controversial draw with Wilder back in December.
It’s clear that there is huge disparity in class and experience between the two men and I fully expect that to show on the night. Expect Fury to use his excellent footwork and high boxing IQ to outclass the unproven Schwarz, which I believe will culminate in a late Fury stoppage.
However, Fury must not underestimate the young German as everyone has at least some chance, especially after Anthony Joshua suffered a shock defeat to Andy Ruiz.
The heavyweight elite have been shown they can take no one for granted. But with Fury having such a wealth of experience and being a former unified champion I expect nothing less than showcase performance from the Gypsy King.
Final Prediction : Tyson Fury via TKO Round 10
