Under The Radar: Alan Jouban vs Dwight Grant
By Ben Jessop
UFC 236 seemed an eternity away when it was first announced hosting one of the best fights you could put together as a fan. We finally get to see Max ‘Blessed’ Holloway take on Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier for the second time. The two fighters first faced each other back in February of 2012 in which Poirier managed to come out on top.
Since then both fighters have been on a meteoric rise to the top, with Max Holloway one of the most dominant champions in UFC history and currently sits at #4 in the official P4P rankings and Dustin Poirier being the #3 lightweight in the world it’s easy to see why this fight is getting all the plaudits on the night.
With a co-main event hosting one of the most celebrated young fighters in the promotion in Israel Adesanya against the #4 welterweight in the world Kelvin Gastelum. The fans really are in for a treat this weekend.
With both of these fights taking almost all of the limelight, I’m here to take a little bit of that light and shine it on one of the fights that appear to be going under the radar.
We have a welterweight showdown on the main card between Alan Jouban and Dwight Grant which has all the makings of a great fight.
Alan Jouban began his UFC back in August of 2014 and has competed eleven times in the few years, his record is littered with four losses among seven wins.
Jouban’s wins have come in all shapes and sizes but most notably he has a majority of wins via KO/TKO so he has the power to stop Grant if the chances is given to him.
Recently Jouban has had some memorable wins against some big names, he won against both Belal Muhammad and Mike Perry via decision and most recently won via a round two KO against Ben Saunders back in February of 2018.
Dwight Grant on the other hand is a relatively new fighter within the UFC after having fought Tyler Hill on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series in June of 2018. Grant did lose his UFC debut against Zak Ottow via split decision but came back this February to KO Carlos Pedersoli Jr in the first round.
Despite the difference in UFC experience, there is only a two-year age gap between the fighters and a one inch height difference in Grant’s favour. This fight will be a battle of experience vs unpredictability.
Both fighters have an explosive KO capability, the fight is bound to give the fans fireworks. I don’t expect this to go the distance.
