Khan vs Crawford Thoughts

Bolton born ‘King’ Khan officially announced that he would fight Terrence Crawford last week at the Landmark Hotel in London.

For many British boxing fanatics whether they are a die-hard or casual follower of the sport, Kell Brook is the fight that many wanted to see.

If Khan fought Brook then it would have been a British face off that would have kick started 2019, in part for how they interact over social media and interviews.

However, Khan choosing to fight Crawford was no surprise once I had attended the press conference and had processed it over the week.

Khan had said that he wanted one more shot at a world title when he came back and he believes that he is still good enough.

Since coming back in 2018, after nearly a two-year hiatus and a stint on ‘I’m a celebrity get me out of here’ in 2017 Khan has tried to show his skills are still relevant at world level.

With an impressive bout to start against Phil Lo Greco in which Khan won the super welterweight contest in just 39 seconds.

This was then followed by a tough, high intensity fight in which he won by unanimous decision against Samuel Vargas at welterweight.

Due to these previous two impressive servings, the bout against Crawford is Khan’s just desserts and is the clear choice for the Olympian.

Khan being offered the chance to fight for a world title in America is much more appealing than a fight against Brook.

While fans would love to see Khan vs Brook, being able to watch the former world champion challenge for another belt is something so much more special.

Khan was an elite boxer not so long ago and while he struggled in some fights, he has been given a chance to show everyone just how good he still is.

While watching Khan fight in Britain would be the preferred option for many fans, this is something that will make Khan’s legacy if he could pull off the upset.

For all of these reasons I am more excited for this fight then I would have been if he had fought Brook.
