Kieran’s Top Tip: UFC Brooklyn Cejudo vs Dillashaw

By Kieran Cobley

This weekend sees the UFC return after a lengthy break for their first card of 2019 this Saturday. Saturday’s card sees the UFC also make their debut on ESPN+ following their split from FOX and to kick off this new partnership, the UFC are putting on a champ vs champ fight and I’m here to give you my top betting tips for the card.

This week, I’m looking at doing just a single, just because there are some very hard to call fights on the card that could trick punters into an incorrect decision.

My first pick is for Henry Cejudo (13-2) to defend his title via decision when he takes on bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw (16-3).

This fight will see Cejudo defend his flyweight title for the first time since beating Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson back in August at UFC 227, which is also the last time Dillashaw fought, with “Killashaw” beating Cody Garbrandt a second time for his first defence of his current reign as bantamweight champion.

I have “The Messenger” winning this one via decision for one simple reason, Dillashaw’s weight cut.

Dillashaw is not used to cutting 125lbs and in recent photos posted on his social media he’s looking good, but looks like he can’t have much more weight that he can cut, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Dillashaw lose his battle with the scales.

Cejudo on the other hand is used to this weight cut and will be able to use his Olympic level wrestling to keep Dilashaw down, draining any energy Dillashaw still has in him after the tough weight cut.

Even if TJ can get into the cage with Cejudo, he won’t be able to keep to his game plan of using his strong Muay Thai striking, as Cejudo will just catch him off balance and secure a takedown, and keep him down, and even then, if Dillashaw can get him up, it will drain his energy so rapidly and just gas him out.

Skybet currently have Cejudo to win via decision at 10/3, meaning a £20 bet will return £86.67 including original stake.
