TUF 28 Finale Preview
By Dylan Jones
UFC Ultimate Fighter series 28 is now only days away, with this seasons Ultimate Fighter being based off of the higher weight classes, those being heavyweight & featherweight for the women.
In the main event former 155 champion Rafael Dos Anjos (28-10) takes on up & coming 170lb contender Kamaru ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Usman (13-1).
RDA, coming off of a loss in an interim title fight against 170lb champion Tyron Woodley’s next opponent, Colby Covington in a 5 round domination of the former champ, RDA looks to redeem that loss this weekend. Usman however is on a massive 12 fight winning streak and looks to increase that to 13, where a win will surely ensure him a title shot in the coming year.
In our co-main event we are expected to see the two finalists of the mens heavyweights, Justin ‘The Grizzly Bear’ Frazier (10-2) take on Juan ‘El Guapo’ Espino (8-1) to see who will become the ultimate fighter, Frazier, who was picked last by Kelvin Gastelum in this season, has defied all odds by winning both of his fights in dominant fashion, whilst Juan has just recently finished the former favourite to win, Maurice Green via an early TKO stoppage in the first.
In the women’s featherweight showdown, Pannie ‘Banzai’ Kianzad (10-3) takes on either Leah ‘Nidas’ Letson, or Macy Chiasson (2-0) to be the womens ultimate fighter this season, Kianzad defeated Julia Stoliarenko in the semi-finals to earn her spot in the finals.
Aspiring british prospect Darren ‘The Dentist’ Stewart (9-3) looks to increase his win streak to 3, after previously coming off of 3 straight losses, Darren has somewhat redeemed himself in his last 2 and takes on Edmen Shahbazyan (7-0) who is only 21 years of age. He makes his official UFC debut after getting a TKO win against Antonio Jones on DWTNCS.
Pedro ‘The Young Punisher’ Munhoz (16-3) will take on Brian ‘Kid Lightning’ Caraway (21-8) in a 135lb bout, Munhoz, recently coming off of an impressive decision win over Brett Johns at UFC 227, looks to get another straight win this weekend against Caraway, who last fought at UFC 222 in a losing bid against Cody Stamann, looks to get a win back.
Joseph Benavidez (25-5) , the number 3 ranked flyweight in the world, takes on Alex Perez (21-4) after Ray Borg was forced out due to medical reasons, Perez is currently ranked at number 12 on the official flyweight rankings, but this may likely be these mens final fight at 125lb as it seems the division will soon be abolished.
