Under The Radar: Cynthia Calvillo vs Poliana Botelho

By Eduardo Ramon

UFC Fight Night 140 will see two top welterweights attempt to solidify their name among the division’s elite, it will also see two women’s strawweight competitors, one looking to re-establish herself as a title contender, and the other looking to climb the ranks with an emphatic win.

Cynthia Calvillo (6-1) and Poliana Botelho (7-1) will face off in what seemingly is the most important fight to date for both women. Calvillo is coming off a 9-month NAC suspension for marijuana use, last facing Carla Esparza and losing via decision, which is her only career loss. She has defeated the likes of Gillian Robertson, Montana De La Rosa, Pearl Gonzalez, and Joanne Calderwood. A victory on Saturday would certainly put her back on the radar of the UFC’s top strawweights.

Poliana Botelho (7-1) is currently on a 5-fight win streak with wins over the likes of Pearl Gonzalez, Silvana Gomez Suarez, and most recently a brutal TKO win over Syuri Kondo. She is one of the top talents to look out for currently in the division. Calvillo is undoubtedly the biggest name she has faced so far in her career, and a win could mean big things are ahead for the Brazilian.

UFC Fight Night 140 will take place November 17, in Buenos Aires, Agentina inside the Parque Roca Arena.
