MMA Fighter of the Week: Fedor Emelianenko

MMA Fighter of the Week: Fedor Emelianenko

By Kieran Cobley

Russian MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko takes our MMA Fighter of the Week honours this week following his effortless TKO victory over Chael Sonnen at Bellator 208.

In the main event of the second show of this weekends Bellator double-header, “The Last Emporer” dominated as he landed multiple heavy-handed shots to the head of Sonnen.

Sonnen briefly regained his composure, getting a sloppy takedown on the Russian, but Emelianenko showed his grappling skill, getting to top position, posturing up, and dropping bombs.

Emelianenko forced Sonnen to curl up into a ball to try defend himself, but the Russian just kept landed big shots, forcing the referee to step in to stop the fight.

Fedor will now take on Ryan Bader in the final of the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix, which will crown a new Bellator Heavyweight champion.

Honourable mentions go out to Ryan Bader for his dominant display over Matt Mitrione, Benson Henderson for his impressive performance against Saad Awad and Henry Corrales and Cheick Kongo, who both took TKO victories at Bellator 208.
