Fabian Edwards Signs With Bellator MMA

By Jon Prentice

Bellator MMA have today announced the signing of top UK middleweight standout Fabian “The Assassin” Edwards following his release from his BAMMA contract. Edwards’ first announced the news via his Facebook account that he would no longer be a part of the BAMMA roster, thanking the promotion “for the opportunity to showcase his skills on such an amazing platform”.

Edwards has signed an exclusive 5-fight contract with Bellator MMA.

Fabian Edwards, younger brother to top 15 UFC welterweight Leon, leaves the BAMMA promotion with a perfect 5-0 start to his professional career following an unbeaten amateur career. With all five wins coming via finish, Edwards is one of the hottest prospects coming out of Europe and there is no doubt that Bellator MMA will be delighted to announce the signing.

During his BAMMA career Edwards went 4-0 with wins over Aaron Kennedy, Louis King, Kent Kauppinen and most recently Claudio Conti to put him on the verge of a title shot before news of his release. His sole appearance outside of BAMMA came in his professional debut when he defeated Rafal Cejrowski via highlight reel flying knee at Bellator 179.

Edwards’ joins an exciting middleweight roster at Bellator, including the likes of the champion Gegard Mousasi, Alexander Shlemenko, Rafael Carvalho, Rafael Lovato Jr and Joe Schilling.

Another middleweight, and potential next opponent for Edwards, who also joined the Bellator MMA promotion is former BAMMA champion Mike Shipman. Edwards called out Shipman on a number of occasions whilst he was BAMMA champion and it would not surprise me if this was the match up that was made given their previous history on the European MMA scene, however, an official opponent is yet to be named.

One thing is for sure and that is the fact that Bellator have picked up one of the hottest prospects in the world with the signing of Edwards and there is no doubt that they will be giving the UK star a big push over the coming years.
