Is Brook vs Khan Getting Nearer?
By Gary Kittilsen
Former two-division world champ and Olympic silver medalist Amir Khan says “nothing can stop” a fight with Kell Brook.
The much-anticipated showdown seemingly took a major step forward when Amir Khan signed a lucrative, multi-fight deal with Eddie Hearn. Hearn also promotes Brook and the fight appeared to be on the fast track.
However, it seemingly hit a standstill over what weight the fight would take place at. Amir Khan is currently campaigning as a welterweight and Kell Brook who last fought in March of this year moved up to the 154-Pound super welterweight division.
Brook looked impressive at the weight scoring a second-round TKO over Siarhei Rabchanka at the Sheffield Arena and went on to say he could no longer make the 147-pound weight limit.
However, that problem seems to have been resolved and an agreement on the weight clause appears to have been reached.
Khan said today
“He’s agreed to be 147, and also have a rehydration clause of 10 pounds. I’m happy with that. If he’s happy to take that, so am I. That fight can happen then 147 it is, and we’re with the same promotional team, so that makes the fight even easier. Let’s see what happens.”
The long-awaited British battle seems to be on track to take place in 2019 although, no date or location has been set Eddie Hearn has mentioned the possibility the fight could take place in February.
Amir Khan, who hails from Bolton, has compiled a career record of 33-4 (20) and has captured world titles at both 140 and 147-pound weight classes.
Khan last fought in September taking a lopsided decision over Samuel Vargas in a fairly entertaining scrap.
Kell Brook of Sheffield has an impressive record of 37-2 (26), but has been inactive since destroying veteran Rabchanka back in March.
Brook’s name has been connected to other big names in America such as Jarrett Hurd and a rematch with Errol Spence Jr. but those rumours never got off the ground and hopefully now the fight most us want, finally happens.
