Under The Radar: Ovince Saint Preux vs Dominick Reyes
By Eduardo Ramon
UFC 229 will mark the long-awaited return of Irish superstar, The Notorious Conor McGregor as he contends for the UFC Lightweight Championship against the undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov in a long awaited grudge match.
In this particular main card we will take a look at two light heavyweight contenders, one an established fighter who is on the cusp of a title shot, and one undefeated up-and-comer looking to make even more of a name for himself.
Ovince Saint Preux (23-11) more often than not seems to be one emphatic win away from a title shot, and at the very least a title eliminator. Showing fantastic submission skills, he holds 3 wins by the extremely rare Von Flue Choke. He is also coming off an impressive straight-arm bar win over Tyson Pedro back in January, his last win before that coming from an extremely emphatic head kick knockout over fellow Light Heavyweight contender Corey Anderson in November of last year. For Saint Pruex, a win over Dominick Reyes would prove that he is here to stay at the top of the division.
Dominick “The Devastator” Reyes (9-0) is one of the only undefeated Light Heavyweights on the UFC’s roster and has shown very promising skills inside the cage, especially as of late. Coming off a TKO win in the 1st round over Jared Cannonier and before that stopping Jeremy Kimball with a rear naked choke. All but one of Reyes’ wins come from either a KO/TKO or submission, proving that he is anything but one-dimensional. A win over Saint Preux would further establish his name at the top of the division and surely put all other Light Heavyweights on notice.
UFC 229 will take place on Saturday, October 6th at the T-Moblie Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
