Donald Cerrone vs Mike Perry Set For UFC Fight Night 139

Another fan-friendly matchup was announced for UFC Fight Night 139 on Friday, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship confirmed Donald Cerrone will take on Mike Perry just hours after announcing Frankie Edgar vs. Chan Sung Jung.
When Mike Perry’s bout with Donald Cerrone was announced, it seemed like just another in a steady string of fun action fights for ‘Platinum.’ Perry has quickly made a name for himself in the UFC with a series of back-and-forth brawls and highlight reel KOs. But his fight with ‘Cowboy’ appears to be carrying some secondary significance as well.
“Cowboy” (33-11) and “Platinum” are set to fight on the Nov. 10 card in Denver, with Cerrone looking to bounce back from a decision loss to Leon Edwards in June and Perry (12-3) aiming for a second victory in a row after taking a split decision victory over Paul Felder at UFC 226.
UFC Fight Night 139 will mark the UFC’s 25th anniversary, with the card being held in the same city as UFC 1 back in 1993.
Both welterweights are well-known as fan favorites with a tendency for violent finishes. In fact, Platinum’s recent decision victory over Felder was the first in his professional MMA career. The 36-year-old Cerrone has 13 performance bonuses on his ledger, spanning 20 UFC victories.
Mike Perry got the chance to spar upcoming opponent Donald Cerrone at ‘Cowboy’’s BMF Ranch, and while it didn’t go all that well, it sounds like he’s confident their fight in the Octagon will be much different.
Perry recently made the move from his training grounds in Florida out to one of MMA’s most high-profile super-camps, Team Jackson-Winkeljohn in Albuquerque, NM. The legendary fight camp has played host to numerous notable UFC talents over the years, with Cerrone among them.
The former lightweight title contender turned welterweight has, over the last few years, moved much of his training to his own BMF Ranch facility. However, Perry still got the chance to put in some rounds with the notable veteran following his move out west.
