De La Hoya for President

Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya has said that he is giving serious consideration to running for president in 2020. Talking to reporters while promoting GGG vs Canelo, he said

“That’s the beauty of our nation. If Arnold [Schwarzenegger] can be governor, if [Donald] Trump can be president, then why can’t a Mexican-American who won an Olympic gold medal, who’s over 35 and a U.S. citizen, run for presidency?”

Although he’s an Olympic Gold Medallist and six weight world champ he does have a few small controversies in his past but if the current guy is anything to go by then that’s no real problem.

Werdum

Fabricio Werdum has been hit with a two year ban after testing positive for Trenbolone, an anabolic steroid. The failed test happened in April and Werdum hasn’t really made any statement yet. I don’t know if this is the end of his career but at 41 years old, time is not on his side.

Mara Borello

Speaking of bans, UFC flyweight Mara Romero Borella has been hit with a 26 year ban by Italian anti doping authorities for her part in a drug dealing ring. Mara, her boyfriend and about 30 other people for selling marijuana and cocaine in nightclubs and gyms. So in terms of the ban it would means she can’t compete till 2044 but according to experts the UFC or USADA are under no obligation to honour to ban so I guess the next move is up to them.

McGregor, the first lawsuit

News has come out the Michael Chiesa has filed a lawsuit against Conor McGregor of the Barclay Centre bus incident, where McGregor and friends attacked a bus full of UFC athletes who were getting ready to compete. The actual amount Chiesa is claiming is unknown but it will be significant.

Of course lawyers juice things up and this is no different, they say Chiesa as a result of the incident was “rendered sick, sore, lame and disabled; that he has experienced pain, suffering and a loss of enjoyment of life and will experience same in future”.

Conor accepted guilt in the criminal proceedings so its difficult to see what his defence will be here and I’m also sure Chiesa is the first of many. This could turn out very expensive for Conor.

Fights in the works

Don’t think these are official but this are the plans

Rafael Dos Anjos vs Kamaru Usman at TUF 28 Finale, November 30th.
Gikbert Melendez vs Arnold Allen at UFC 232, December 29th.
Michae Chiesa vs Carlos Condit also at UFC 232, December 29th.

Worst Non Stoppage of the Year

I take it most of you saw the absolute abomination by Herb Dean the other night? During the CB Dollaway vs Murtazaliev, fight approaching the end of the second round Dollaway was done clearly and offering no defense while waiting for the ref to stop the fight.

Problem was that the ref didn’t think the fight was ready to be stopped probably the only man in the arena or watching at home to feel that way.

To make it worse, when the round was over Dollaway’s corner were imploring him to get off the canvas and continued the fight. Terrible decisions from both the ref and the corner.

Mayweather’s next fight

A few weeks after speculation about MayMac 2, a meeting in a club between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao has sparked rumours of a rematch. Of course both men will play it up and if course Floyd loves to keep his name in the headlines.
Canelo vs GGG

The awaited rematch between Saul Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin finally happened with Alvarez taking the majority decision.

There is always debate after these big fights with claims of robbery and corruption but to be fair on this one I seem people claim for both sides but to be honest most of the people I have seem said they thought GGG won but it was close enough that they couldn’t really complain about it.

Part 3 coming soon no doubt!!
