Under The Radar: Michael Johnson vs Andre Fili
By Eduardo Ramon
UFC Fight Night Lincoln will be headlined by top lightweight’s Justin Gaethje and James Vick, seeing that this fight alone could very well be a fight of the year contender, it is understandable how the rest of the card can be overlooked.
The co-main event, Michael Johnson (18-13-0) vs Andre Fili (18-5-0), is this week’s sleeper fight.
Michael Johnson, coming off a submission loss to Darren Elkins back in January, has always been a factor of the lightweight division and has even defeated the likes of Dustin Poirier, Tony Ferguson, and Edson Barboza. Johnson will compete in his second fight at featherweight, seemingly showing improvements on his speed since cutting down to 145.
Andre Fili’s last fight was a decision win over Dennis Bermudez, also in January. Fili, member of Team Alpha Male, trains with the likes of former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt, fellow featherweight Chad Mendes, and Hall Of Famer Uriah Faber. Fili has won 3 out of his last 5 fights, despite showing some inconsistency in terms of overall performance, Fili’s skill level is not to be overlooked.
These two featherweight’s all but guarantee a fight that will be talked about that could even rival the main event.
