What Is Conor McGregor’s Best KO?
By @NoTurnUnstonedd
Conor McGregor is a master counter striker, with some of the best highlight reel finishes in the game today. Due to his charismatic & colourful personality he became an instant hit with UFC fans. His high level understanding of timing, range & striking distance leaves opponents second guessing, and often, over extending.
Conor is a world-class striker, known for his famous left hand and wide variety of offensive attacks. Not to mention he was the first UFC fighter to hold two Championship titles in two divisions consecutively . Most recently, McGregor went 10 rounds with the widely considered GOAT of the boxing world Floyd Mayweather, in his professional boxing debut. However, with Conor soon to be back inside the Octagon fans are eager to see the Irishman able to utilise his full arsenal of strikes once again.
With the biggest fight in UFC history vastly approaching, Conor McGregor is set to take on undefeated UFC Lightweight Champion & 2x Sambo World Champion, Khabib ‘The Eagle’ Nurmagomedov on Saturday the 6th of October.
I asked the MMA community on Twitter, ‘Which Conor McGregor knockout would you consider his finest?’ Over 1000 people have weighed in on this debate, and it was clear from the beginning which knockouts are the fan favourites. Eddie Alvarez, Jose Aldo & Chad Mendes were all worthy contenders to be McGregor’s most impressive stoppage victory to date.

1. Jose Aldo
54% of fans agreed that Conor dismissing a 10-year undefeated Jose Aldo to become UFC Featherweight Champion, was his biggest knockout of his professional career. Some fans have put it down to pure luck, but this was undoubtedly one of McGregor’s best performances. With all credit going to a perfectly timed counter left, the fight lasted a shy 13 seconds before the referee stoppage, leaving the former Champion temporarily unaware of his surroundings.

2. Eddie Alvarez
A close second, 39% of fans believe the finishing sequence of punches on Eddie Alvarez, to win the UFC Lightweight Championship, was Conor’s best knockout. Eddie was said to be McGregor’s toughest opponent to date, with attributes such as durability and a strong wrestling background. However, Conor made Eddie look like an amateur, taunting and knocking him down multiple times. Alvarez made the deadly mistake of over extending in an exchange with McGregor, and was KO’d with a stunning 4 punch counter combination.

3. Chad Mendes
Although the Mendes knockout received few votes with just 4%, this was in fact a tough fight for McGregor. Matched up against a world-class wrestler, Conor faced adversity throughout the fight. Mendes was strong in the takedown and landed some significant elbows from top position. However, Mendes began to fade towards the end of the fight after an accumulation of punches & kicks and constant pressure. And fell victim to a stunning one-two, knocking him down and finishing the fight.

Some honourable mentions from fans included: Dustin Poirier; Marcus Brimage (UFC Debut); Ivan Buchinger (Cage Warriors) and Dennis Siver.
