Demetrious Johnson: On The Shelf

Demetrious Johnson: On The Shelf

By @PowerfulDDP

Demetrious Johnson, coming off his 5 round battle and ultimate title loss against Henry Cejudo at UFC 227, is in good spirits even though it may have resulted in injuries that could prevent the former champ from getting a well deserved immediate title rematch.

As the bout resulted in a partial MCL and LCL tear, Johnson will now serve an indefinite medical suspension. Johnson also thought he had broken his foot although that has proved not to be the case. The former champion will now need to spend time away from the Octagon, but as far as he knows as of now the injuries does not require surgery just rehabilitation.

Johnson thinks the injuries could keep him out for the remainder of 2018 but remains hopeful.

“I got X-rays on my foot, everything seems to be fine,” Johnson told his Instagram followers. “If the pain is still there, if the swelling is still there after 10 days, I’ll have another MRI to make sure nothing’s wrong with it. I got an MRI on my knee, no results yet, takes about two days.”

Hopefully these injuries don’t keep him out for too long but they could end up keeping him out of competition until early 2019. Which would cost him an immediate rematch.

What do you think? Will we see him back in late 2018 getting another crack at the belt?
