RITSON RETURNS TO HOMETOWN HEADLINE IN THE NORTH EAST

The Lewis Ritson story continues when he returns to the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle on October 13 on course to fight for the European lightweight title if the opportunity presents itself first.

Ritson’s astonishing rise through the British level scene has surprised a lot of people with his prolific wins over Robbie Barrett, Joe Murray and Scott Cardle to successfully defend the Lord Lonsdale belt outright.

Other than these impressive wins that culminated in just four rounds of action collectively, Ritson wasn’t someone tipped from the amateurs to go on and do what he’s done in this short space of time. With his father, Dave Ritson training his son from an early age, the bond these two have brought to boxing is quite special and unique.

Ritson along with Josh Kelly who has had a successful amateur career with the GB squad and so far so good in the pro ranks lead the way for North East boxing and will potentially headline another show together very soon.

Another Olympian turned pro, Joe Cordina outclassed Sean Dodd last weekend and will spur Ritson on to replicate the same sort of dominant performance when he headlines on the 13th and both on collision course to potentially box in the future when the times right.

A great time for British boxing but Matchroom are branching out to new territories to give the chance and platform for the next wave of talent to show their skill on the biggest stages across the country.

There are some massive nights ahead for the 24-year-old with Anthony Crolla, Luke Campbell and veteran Ricky Burns all operating at world level having surpassed the British ranks.

The current European champion at lightweight is Edis Tatli and the Finnish fighter, I’m sure would be more than happy to come to the UK to defend his title in Ritson’s backyard.
