Fury Meets Pulev:
By Matthew Dean
October 27th in Sofia will see Kubrat Pulev (25-1-0 13KOs) pitted against Hughie Fury (21-1-0 11KOs) to fill the vacant No. 1 contender spot for Anthony Joshua’s IBF belt .
Pulev known as the Cobra had been ordered to fight Dillian Whyte or Jarrell Miller but both turned him down. Step in Hughie Fury, cousin to former world heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury and despite some wrangling with the IBF as regard to purse bids, Pulev announces we now have a fight date.
It could make an interesting fight.
Kubrat is currently ranked at No. 2 in the IBF and No. 8 in the WBA.
Fury is No. 5 in the IBF rankings.
Both fighters have lost once.
Pulev to Wladimir Klitschko 4 years ago on a 5th round KO and Fury more recently to Joseph Parker on points in September last year.
Pulev has won 5 fights in a row since, albeit against pedestrian opposition. His most notable victory was probably that over Dereck Chisora
He last fought in April 2017 and was scheduled to challenge Joshua Last year but pulled out due to injury. Inactivity could be a big factor as at 37 years old, Father Time could catch up soon.
Fury has youth on his side at 23 and has a slight height advantage. He has fought twice in the last year with one win and one loss. However the loss to Joseph Parker was one of his better performances which could have gone either way.
This is an anything goes scrap which could prove to be a decent fight for the fans.
