FRANK WARREN PRESS CONFERENCE:
By Henry Walter
Frank Warren yesterday unveiled a stacked card for his October 6th Leicester show.
The headline fight will see unbeaten super-lightweight talent Jack Catterall lock horns with the flashy former Commonwealth title challenger Ohara Davies and it was Davies who stole the spotlight at today’s press conference in London.
Usually renowned for his confident outbursts, Ohara instead proclaimed-
“The media make me look bad. I’m sorry to disappoint but none of you are getting any bad headlines. You media guys type bs and make me look arrogant and un-intellectual.”
Before promising-
“I’m gonna win this fight! I can’t wait to take it with both hands.”
A dubious Kugan Cassius of IFL TV offered Davies £100 that he wouldn’t last up until the fight without talking his opponent down. Davies upped the bet to £150 before readily shaking hands on it.
Warren also choose the event to announce the signing of the unbeaten British Super-featherweight Champion Sam Bowen.
Bowen reiterated his belief that he is the best in Britain and stated that he believed the new partnership would open-
“Massive doors.”
Bowen was seated in between two potential rivals in the both unbeaten Archie Sharp and Leon Woodstock who will clash for Woodstock’s WBO European Super-Featherweight title.
All three were in agreement that it would be a great fight and Bowen refused to pick a winner admitting that it was a genuine 50-50 affair.
Nicola Adams will also feature on the card with a promise by Warren that she will be fighting for a title though he was unable to announce the opponent for contractual reasons.
The final interesting addition to the bill was the unbeaten British heavyweight prospect and former amateur standout Daniel Dubois.
Dubois will face the seasoned former world title challenger Kevin Johnson in an intriguing fight that Warren described as-
“A huge step up for Daniel.”
When asked by this writer when Daniel Dubois would be ready to challenge for the British title Warren lamented that he is ready now but making the fight would be very difficult.
Post conference boxing pundit John Rawling told journalists that Frank Warren had informed him that a fight between WBC Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder and former recognised Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury was-
“Just about made.”
