Rocky Fielding Wins The World Title:

By Michael Richards

Rocky Fielding has achieved his childhood dream to become the new WBA (Regular) Super Middleweight World Champion. In a surreal, subdued setting in Offenburg, Rocky walked to the ring to his usual walk on song of Sweet Caroline, to the delight of his pocket of fans sitting ringside. He looked pensive and slightly nervous, which was understandable fighting for a world title away from home. Zeuge seemed the more relaxed as introductions were made, experience clearly playing a part.

Round 1 saw both men looking to work the other out, with Zeuge attempting to figure out a way past Fielding’s much bigger frame. Zeuge started to increase his work rate and pressure in Round 2, being much more aggressive. This was enough for him to take the opening 2 rounds. Round 3 saw Rocky his jab into play a lot more, forcing Zeuge to retreat for the first time in the fight Zeuge remained busy but Rocky did more than enough to win the round, with his huge size advantage becoming key to his success.

Round 4 was when the tide of the fight really began to turn. Fielding hurts Zeuge with a right hand to the side of his head, at one point turning away from Fielding. Both men appeared to be wilting slightly in the heat of the arena, Zeuge’s mouth wide open and Rocky looking for a breather after unloading, knowing Zeuge was hurt. The realisation that Fielding could hurt Zeuge hit home with the German on permanent retreat when the fight entered the fifth round.

The end came as Rocky pushed forward, catching Zeuge with a left uppercut, forcing him onto the ropes before catching him with a sickening left to the body, to sink the German to the canvas. The referees count wasn’t needed however, as the towel came in. Cue jubilant scenes, as Fielding runs out of the ring to his supporters. What a moment for the Liverpool man, who has come back from devastation in 2015 when Callum Smith stopped him inside a round.

The future is certainly bright now, with huge fights around the corner. That’s all for the future though. Now is a time for Rocky to take stock and revel in his achievement. To win away from home is impressive. To stop a reigning champion away from home is another level.
