Tyson Fury Get’s His Next Opponent:
By Josh Wooler
Francesco Pianeta has been announced as Tyson Fury’s opponent for his fight on Carl Frampton’s undercard on August 18 at Belfast’s Windsor Park.
Italy’s Pianeta (35-4-1, 21KO) is a former European Heavyweight champion and holds wins over the likes of Johann Duhaupas, Oliver McCall and Frans Botha. However, his most notable contest was his 2013 knockout defeat to former unified world champion Wladimir Klitschko. The 33-year old’s career has gone downhill since then, with his last bout ending in a points defeat at the hands of Petar Milas.
This will be the second fight of Fury’s highly-publicised comeback following two and a half years away from the ring. The former world champion, and his legion of fans, will be hoping for a better display than in his last outing. In June, Fury looked lacklustre against Albanian Cruiserweight Sefer Seferi, who retired after four uneventful rounds in Manchester.
Based on that performance it would appear that Fury is some way off challenging the likes of Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua. For that reason, I am happy that Fury will be playing second fiddle to Frampton on fight-night, allowing him to go about his comeback with a little less pressure.
The bill will finally see Carl Frampton fulfil his dream of fighting in Northern Ireland’s national stadium, Windsor Park and whilst he would have preferred to take on a more high-profile name than Australia’s Luke Jackson, a special Belfast night is guaranteed.
Elsewhere on the card, Paddy Barnes will battle Cristofer Rosales for the WBC Flyweight title.
