An Exclusive Interview with Bellator MMA Star Liam McGeary:

liam

Liam McGeary is the former Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion, and this week I caught up with Liam for an exclusive interview. Liam was 11-0 but is 1-3 in his last 4 fights, and is on the first two fight losing skid of his career.

Q: The last time we spoke you were preparing for Vadim Nemkov at Bellator 194, sadly the fight didn’t go your way, what went wrong for you.

Liam: Haha what went wrong!? The whole fight mate!!
Body was busted up before I even went into the cage, us fighters can be a little blind when it comes to recognising our injuries, but no excuses he won, I lost, got to get back on the horse and try again now.

Q: Nemkov as we know used brutal leg kicks as his route to victory, were you expecting those tactics.

Liam: I knew he used leg kicks, just didn’t think they were that hard! I think it was the first kick he broke my leg and then it was all down hill from there I’m afraid.

Q: You said to me in private, that you “Don’t get paid enough to hurt like this” it sounded like you were in some pain, is that the worst you’ve felt post fight.

Liam:  Mate, I was in unbelievable pain!! I think it worked out a total of about 15 fractures around my body, there or there about’s anyway. I was sitting in agony wide awake texting you then! Not good lol so yeah, that was the worst I’d ever felt.

Q: However since the fight you have had some good news, you have become a father, what’s life like now, nappies and no sleep.

Liam: Life has definitely changed for me yeah, my son is getting big and strong, coming into his own person now… when he’s awake! But yes for dirty nappies, I’m a pro at that now.. after a few accidents and changes of clothes, both mine and his we good now lol. His mum gets up to feed him during the night, there’s nothing I can do at 3am, I don’t have the right body parts to help him out then so that’s all her, I’ll take over in the am then. All about tag team!

Q: Hopefully the pain has subsided now, are you back in the gym now.

Liam: Pain has defo gone now. Took a good few months to recover from all that! Sun, sand and sea helped a lot with rehab, and now back in a gym to make sure all the bones and the muscles around them are strong!

Q: How soon can we see you back in a Bellator cage.

Liam: I’m hoping to get back in the cage around October time, just waiting on Bellator to get back to me with a date. But soon as they do, I cannot wait to get back in there to make amends for those last 2 horror shows! Now that my body is fixed.

Quick Fire Questions:

Your Biggest Weakness: I have no patience! That has to be my weakness.

Your Biggest Strength: Strength, I’m not afraid to go into the unknown and take a chance on something. If it works yes, if it doesn’t, wipe your nose and get back on with it.

Your Biggest Regret: No regrets, the life I’ve lived there’s nothing that I regret doing or didn’t do.

One word that best describes you: Wanderer

Favourite Film: that’s a tough one, but has to be Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels, or Snatch King Arthur the new one,… anything with fights, explosions, murders or gangsters then I’m into it.

Favourite TV Show: Naked and Afraid or a new one I just found is Alone. Or expedition Unknown.

TV Hell: It’s all hell mate, there’s never anything decent on!!! There’s no reality TV show I would like to go on. I like Real life shows, there the ones I watch, I’d love to get on one them, but as for the reality crap, not my cup of tea thanks mate.
Thank you again pal for giving up your time, and good luck when you return to action in October.
