The Problems In Matching Daniel Dubois:
Daniel Dubois moved to 8-0 on Saturday, and had the longest fight of his career when Tom Little extended him 5 rounds. The problem now is how to match him going forward.
Dubois is only 20, only 8 fights into his pro career, but matching heavyweight prospects is notoriously difficult. It’s especially difficult in this age, when the British heavyweight scene is so strong.
BOXING MONTHLY HEAVYWEIGHT RANKINGS:
1: Anthony Joshua
2: Tyson Fury
3: Dillian Whyte
4: Tony Bellew
5: Hughie Fury
6: Joe Joyce
7: Dereck Chisora
8: Daniel Dubois
The above rankings are an indication how strong the division is today, and outlines the problems in matching Dubois. Frank Warren’s latest heavyweight hope is already ranked 8th, and you wouldn’t push Dubois too soon and match him with any of the names above him, at least not yet.

Warren mentioned a fight with fellow prospect Nathan Gorman for next year, and that is sensible matchmaking. Both are coming along nicely, and by this time next year, it could be a very big fight indeed.
In the meantime, it’s probably the usual journeyman type of opponent which will be brought in. But domestically the likes Gary Cornish, Sam Sexton or even Dave Allen are the sort of opponents that would give Dubois valuable experience against decent domestic opposition.
Dubois is a very good prospect, but is young, and still very raw with much to learn, but it’s that balance between letting him learn his craft and getting the right opponents to let him do that, and not push him too soon.
