Errol Spence Jr Blows Away Carlos Ocampo
Errol Spence Jr needed little time to dispose of his mandatory challenger Carlos Ocampo in front of 12,604 fans at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
Few expected Ocampo to trouble Spence Jr, but even fewer expected him to blow Ocampo away so quickly and so effortlessly. It took less than 3 minutes and one single body shot for Spence Jr to retain his IBF welterweight title for the 2nd time.
Spence Jr marched forward from the get go, and one beautifully placed left hand to the ribs finished the job and had the desired effect of sending out a warning to his welterweight rivals. The opponent might be criticised, but the manner of the victory can’t.

Spence Jr at 28 is at his physical peak, and it’s not hard to imagine him improving further.
Spence improves to 24-0, Ocampo suffers his 1st defeat and drops to 22-1.
Perhaps a little frustrated that he couldn’t put on more of a show for his fans Spence said:
“I was a little disappointed, I wanted to give the crowd their money’s worth and I wanted him to sustain a little bit, take a little bit more punishment but the body shot landed right on point and it dropped him.”
All the talk now will focus on what is next for Spence Jr, and he is fortunate to be around at a time where the welterweight division is so strong. The winner of Danny Garica and Shawn Porter, who fight in August, is one viable option, but a fight with either would probably be early next year at the earliest.
The unbeaten Keith Thurman who has been on the side-lines due to injury since he beat Garcia in March of 2017, might not be an immediate option, Thurman is highly unlikely to want to face someone of the talents of Spence Jr after such a long layoff.
The likes of Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan would be the type of big name opponents that would look good on any fighters record, Khan especially could be in the frame.
But the fight most fight fans want to see is with Terrence Crawford, who only a week ago took the WBO welterweight title from Jeff Horn. A fight between Crawford one of the top 3 pound for pound fighters on the planet, and Spence Jr a potential superstar, could be the modern-day Leonard/Hearns, a fight that would launch both to the next level.
Crawford wants the fight, and wants it this year, as would most fight fans.
With Floyd Mayweather gone, the sport needs that next star, Errol Spence Jr could be that fighter, but Crawford and others might just have a little say in that.
