Golovkin v Canelo Rematch Confirmed.
Finally and probably to the surprise of many, it looks like one of the most anticipated fights for 2018 is on.
Oscar De La Hoya has just posted on social media that the fight is on, and Gennady Golovkin and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will indeed meet on September 15th.
Billy Joe Saunders was apparently Plan B for Golovkin had the rematch not materialised.
Only recently in a dispute over the purse split the fight looked in real danger of not happening, but it looks like we have a fight.
The first fight ended in a controversial draw, but most pundits saw Golovkin as the winner, and the original scheduled date for the rematch in May was cancelled due to the failed drug tests by Alvarez.
With doubts still surrounding the big heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder this latest development will come as a welcome surprise to fight fans, who like me grow tired of the seemingly endless politics within the sport, which deny us the fights we want to see.
