Terrence Crawford Shines

Terrence Crawford Shines:

In 1981 we were treated to one of the best welterweight fights of all time, when Sugar Ray Leonard came from behind to unify the welterweight division against Thomas Hearns.

After his performance over night in Las Vegas, Terrence Crawford could very soon be part of a modern-day classic to even potentially rival that great fight. The UK trade paper Boxing News rate Crawford as the 3rd best pound for pound boxer on the planet, even that lofty rating might be understating his immense skills.

In becoming a 3 weight world champion Crawford brutally dismantled Jeff Horn, he systematically broke down his incredibly brave but out gunned opponent. Horn never stopped coming forward, but not for one second of the contest did Horn ever look like springing the surprise.

The Australian was always several steps behind, the 8th was the beginning of the end but Crawford didn’t have to wait much longer. Horn was dropped and saved at the 2:32 mark in the 9th, Crawford was simply on another level, another planet even.

Crawford now the new WBO welterweight champion improves to 33-0, Horn drops to 18-1-1.

Hopefully the boxing politics do not rob us of seeing Errol Spence Jr looking across the ring at Crawford, in what is one hell of a mouth watering prospect, a match that just has to be made.
