Darren Till’s Anfield Ambitions
By: Armaan Younis
While most MMA fighters would dream about the bright lights of Las Vegas or Madison Square Garden in New York, one fighter wants to bring the UFC to Anfield, home of Liverpool FC.
After the biggest victory of his career at the sold-out Echo Arena in Liverpool with a unanimous decision over UFC’s number one welterweight contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson at Sunday’s main event, Darren Till’s next goal is not a title shot but to fight at Liverpool FC’s Anfield stadium.
Even though Dana White said Vegas is next for him, but Till says he will talk to the president and push for a fight at Anfield as he believes that he can fill the 50,000+ capacity Anfield stadium. After the win against Stephen Thompson at UFC Fight Night, Darren Till said, “Right now, I could sell Anfield out, Tony Bellew sold Everton out, so I’m going to do Anfield. That’s the next goal.”
Will the Gorilla convince Dana White with his Scouse accent to bring an event to England’s 6th largest stadium or will he be finally making his debut on American soil as all his fights so far have been in Brazil and Europe? Let’s wait and see.
