Scott Quigg wants the Frampton rematch

Scott Quigg wants the Frampton rematch

Carl Frampton has a date on the 18th August at Windsor Park, but as yet no opponent has been confirmed.

Frank Warren had hoped that the winner of Lee Selby and Josh Warrington would be in the opposite corner, however the winner of that fight Warrington, is saying that August is too soon for him. The question now is, if Warrington is unavailable, who will face Frampton.

One fighter who is keen to face Frampton is Scott Quigg, who has previously fought and lost to Frampton in 2016.

An incredibily slow start cost Quigg badly in that fight, and Quigg is keen on writing the wrongs as he sees it from that showdown in Manchester.

“Everybody knows I’d jump at that fight and August 18 I’d be more than ready to take that fight,” Quigg told Sky Sports News.

“I’ve been in the gym for five weeks now and I’m already feeling good, feeling sharp and enjoying training again.

“There’s no other fight out there that could really be at Windsor Park, it’s as simple as that and I’m available. I’ve always wanted the rematch and I believe I could beat him, but I doubt I’ll get the phone call.

“He was the better man on the night and if that rematch was to happen then I’d get my chance to prove the doubters wrong.”

Despite coming off a loss to Oscar Valdez last time out, Quigg would tick most of the boxes needed as an opponent for Frampton. However boxing politics as an habit of getting in the way, and Quigg is highly unlikely to get the call. Quigg is perhaps too dangerous an option and one that could ruin all the lucrative plans ahead for Frampton.
