Eric Molina Banned for 2 Years:
The former Anthony Joshua opponent Eric Molina has been suspended for two years after testing positive for a banned substance following his fight with Joshua in December 2016.
The American tested positive for the prohibited substance dexamethasone.
The UK Anti Doping chief executive Nicole Sapstead said:
“Every athlete is solely responsible for what is in their system and must adhere to the strict liability principle. All athletes at any level should familiarise themselves with the Wada Prohibited List and ensure they do not put themselves in a position where they may breach anti-doping regulations.”
As I have said before boxing needs to wake up to doping within the sport. Intentional or not, as the statement says boxers have to be responsible for what goes in their bodies and be fully aware of the rules.
But it’s not only the fighters themselves, the various governing bodies need to agree on more regular testing and punishments that actually fit the crime.
But just as concerning is how long the case has taken, its taken around 18 months to reach this point and Molina has fought twice since the Joshua fight and was scheduled to fight Mariusz Wach in Poland on Friday.
Molina will be eligible to fight again on the 28th October 2019.
