Winner of Lee Selby v Josh Warrington Confirm Possible Frampton Fight

By Dan McConnell

Fierce rivals Lee Selby and Josh Warrington finally met at Tuesday’s press conference for their much-anticipated grudge match for Selby’s IBF World featherweight Title at Elland Road on Saturday night. Selby will make the fifth title defence of his IBF World featherweight Championship against his mandatory challenger Warrington.

Leeds-born Warrington will be hoping that home advantage in front of his loyal fan base in Leeds will secure him a first world title and put an end to Welshman Selby’s title reign. Selby will step into the lion’s den hoping to silence the crowd and successfully defend his title for a sixth time.

The feuding foes have engaged in a long running rivalry for months and the bad blood will be settled in this all-British showdown on Saturday night.

Josh Warrington (26-0, 6 KO’s) brought the blockbuster bout closer to reality by stopping unbeaten Dane, Dennis Ceylan in the 10th round, to become mandatory challenger for the IBF Featherweight title. While Lee Selby (26-1, 9 KO’s) defended his title last time out against Mexican Eduardo Ramirez via unanimous decision.

Both men know that a victory will provide a possible pathway to fight former two-weight World Champion Carl Frampton (25-1, 14 KO’s) in a summertime showdown for the IBF featherweight title. Frampton’s promoter Frank Warren has promised a summer match-up next, at Northern Ireland’s National Stadium Windsor Park for the Belfast-born ‘The Jackal’.

Frampton defeated former four-weight world champion Nonito Donaire in Belfast in April of this year via unanimous decision, winning the WBO Interim featherweight Title.

Both Selby and Warrington have both put Frampton on their radar, and Frampton will be ringside in Leeds on Saturday night, the questions is who will get the Frampton gig.
