Adonis Stevenson & Tony Bellew: Scores to Settle?

Adonis Stevenson & Tony Bellew:

Scores to Settle?

By Lee Harwood

The WBC light Heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson is calling out Tony Bellew for a rematch of their 2013 fight in Canada, a fight won by Stevenson via a 7th round stoppage. Bellew says if they meet again he will knock Stevenson out.

Tony Bellew has told Sky Sports he would be willing to fight the only man he truly believes he ever lost to, but only if the fight takes place at cruiserweight.

So what could be so different from the 1st fight, convincingly won by Stevenson? why would a rematch be any different?

In my opinion Tony Bellew has improved vastly since moving up in weight and is coming off what are now his most famous victories, his two wins over David Haye and also winning the WBC cruiserweight title before that.

Stevenson now 40, on the other hand has fallen a little under the radar, once considered one of the P4P stars of boxing, he has slipped out of the minds of many fans due to some low key title defences against the likes of Tommy Karpency, Thomas Williams and faded former super middleweight champion Sakio Bika.

Stevenson burst onto the world scene with a stunning KO of the then light heavyweight king Chad Dawson in 2013 but this Saturday faces his biggest test since then, against the former super middleweight champion Badou Jack.

This fight in my opinion is very close to call (I personally fancy Jack to dethrone Stevenson) a big win for Stevenson would re-elevate him back to that star status making him the kind of PPV calibre opponent the Bomber must now be looking for.

Yes Stevenson won the 1st meeting convincingly, but Bellew was badly hampered by the weight cut, but this time would be facing a bigger and better Bellew, and the fight would be welcomed by most boxing fans, especially in the UK.

However Badou Jack is a big obstacle in the way, and a Jack win is by no means out of the question, and could he be a potential opponent for Bellew if he beats Stevenson on Saturday night.
