Raquel Pennington: Who’s Right
While it was hardly a Roberto Duran ‘No Mas’ moment, Raquel Pennington at the end of the 4th round of her title fight with Amanda Nunes this past weekend, told her corner “I’m Done, I want to be done”.

There has been widespread criticism that her corner didn’t pull her out at that moment. Pennington was sent out for the 5th and final round but was stopped at the 2:36 mark of the round.
Pennington doesn’t seem to have a problem with her corner for sending her out, and her head coach Jason Kutz has no regrets about letting his fighter carry on.
It’s a difficult one, corners are there to offer their fighter tactical advice, motivate them and to do all they can to help them win the fight.

But ultimately their primary aim is to safeguard their fighter, to protect them.
Fighters are often too brave for their own good, they need and rely on their corner to sometimes protect them from themselves.
As I have said in a previous article, I am not a lover of fighters continuing in fights when their chance of victory has reasonably gone and taking unnecessary damage in the process.
While the I’m done comment should not be dismissed, but do fighters really need to say that before a corner pulls them out.
