Golovkin Destroys Martirosyan

We were denied the anticipated rematch with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez but Gennady Golovkin turned up and beat his short notice opponent in emphatic fashion.

Golovkin turned back the challenge of the game but out of his depth Vanes Martirosyan and stopped Martirosyanat at 1:53 of the 2nd round.

As in the Kell Brook fight, Golovkin struggled a little with the hand speed of his opponent, but he came out with real purpose in the 2nd, hurting his man with an uppercut before finishing him off with a brutal left in front of 7,837 fans at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Post fight Golovkin said he would fight anybody, including Alvarez.

“I want everyone,” Golovkin said. “I have a lot of belts. I challenge anyone to come and take my belts. I don’t care who. Let’s clean out the division.”

At 36 and two hard fights that went the distance against Daniel Jacobs and Alvarez, Golovkin will benefit from a shorter nights work, and the attention will undoubtedly turn to the almost certain rematch with Alvarez in September.

Martirosyan fell to 36-4-1 and Golovkin improved his record to 38-0-1.
