In years to come Rio Ferdinand will thank the British Boxing Board of Control for not giving him a boxing licence.

While I am a firm believer in letting people at least try in most walks of life, boxing is another story.

While I can sympathise to a point, especially when a certain cricketer was granted permission to box a few years ago, boxing is a sport where people can get seriously hurt and of course have.

Ferdinand I have no doubt was deadly serious about trying his hand at the noble sport. But sometimes people need protecting from themselves, obviously the powers that be, think this was one such case.
