Megan Redstall: A New Beginning

Megan Redstall: A New Beginning

The return to action this weekend for Megan Redstall couldn’t have been better timed. The flyweight division is littered with domestic talent. After her fight this Saturday is out of the way, Redstall will look to force her way into title contention with the names that reside above her in that red-hot flyweight division.

Chloe Watson, the European Champion, will likely defend that title against fellow unbeaten fighter Maisey-Rose Courtney later this year. Nicola Hopewell recently claimed the Commonwealth bauble, and Redstall could very easily be a future challenger for the belt that Hopewell claimed courtesy of a points victory over Gemma Ruegg.

Redstall was the originally intended opponent for the fight for the vacant Commonwealth title until Ruegg was offered the opportunity to face the Worksop fighter in April. It is not that hard to envisage Redstall being offered a fight with Hopewell if her return this weekend ends in victory. Make no mistake, Redstall is more than interested in that fight. For both Hopewell and Redstall, it makes perfect sense. A career should be about gradual progression. Redstall would probably start a fight with Hopewell as the underdog, but even if she did come up short, the experience would be invaluable. A defeat doesn’t have to be the end of the story. But Redstall would undoubtedly enter that fight with a firm belief that she would win.

Redstall turned twenty-three this week, and despite her inactivity of late, she has plenty of time to fulfil all that undoubted potential. With only one fight on her record since 2022, Redstall will undoubtedly be looking to make up for lost time. A fighter with plenty of ambition and one that firmly believes she will be a world champion at some point in her career.

The time away from the sport hasn’t been wasted. Redstall has still been training throughout the last two years. Only the end reward of an actual fight has been missing. Redstall has focused primarily on her day job and becoming a fully qualified paramedic. With that aim now achieved, Redstall will launch her new beginning in her sport of choice this coming weekend.

Redstall turned professional in 2021, and only a draw last time out in her ‘comeback’ fight against the Ukraine import Inna Statkevych slightly spoils her resume. But Redstall calls that fight a learning experience and views it as more valuable than her previous two winning fights. But those two wins indicated a fighter of real promise. Redstall could be a fighter very much going under the radar.

Kira Carter will be in the opposite corner this weekend in Bristol. Redstall will look to relaunch her career with a dominant victory and send a little warning to the likes of Watson, Hopewell, and Courtney.
